******************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The spokesperson for Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) made the following announcement today (November 25):

A total of five babies (two male and three female, aged from 6 months to 31 months) and a student nurse at a paediatrics infant ward at QEH had presented with diarrhoea symptoms since November 17. Appropriate tests were arranged for the patients, and three babies tested positive for Norovirus. They are under isolation and in stable condition. The student nurse is currently on leave.

Infection control measures at the ward concerned have already been stepped up according to prevailing guidelines. All new cases will be admitted to designated rooms and visiting arrangements have been restricted. All other patients in the ward are under close medical surveillance.

The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
