Sir Robert Ho Tung Fund allocates grants to 229 charitable projects

     The Sir Robert Ho Tung Charitable Fund has allocated $14.7 million to 229 charitable projects in the areas of medicine and health, rehabilitation, social welfare, education, community service and anti-drug abuse this year.

     A spokesman for the Fund's Allocation Committee said today (November 21), "The fund's donation enables 147 organisations to enhance their services, which will benefit a large number of people, especially the underprivileged."

     Major grants included:

* $1.62 million for the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals to purchase equipment for the elderly and chronically ill patients, and to organise education camps for children with intellectual disabilities;

* $736,000 for the Hong Kong Tuberculosis, Chest and Heart Diseases Association to acquire monitoring systems for Ruttonjee and Tang Shiu Kin Hospitals;

* $555,000 for Yan Chai Hospital to acquire medical and nursing equipment for its patients and the frail elderly;

* $529,000 for the Salvation Army to acquire equipment and organise programmes for children, youth and the elderly;

* $495,000 for the Po Leung Kuk to acquire medical and rehabilitation equipment for the elderly and organise programmes for children with intellectual disabilities;

* $465,000 for the Hong Kong St. John Ambulance to acquire a van for transportation of patients and delivery of dental equipment and organising first aid courses; and

* $350,000 for Queen Elizabeth Hospital to acquire an aquatic therapy system for frail patients.

     Other fund recipients included the Hong Kong Red Cross, the Hong Kong Society for the Protection of Children, Benji's Centre, the Heung Hoi Ching Kok Lin Association, the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council, Caritas Medical Centre, Prince of Wales Hospital, Tai Po Hospital and Tuen Mun Hospital.

     The Sir Robert Ho Tung Charitable Fund, one of the major trust funds in Hong Kong, was set up in 1956 with a bequest of $500,000 by the late Sir Robert Ho Tung. It is now managed by HSBC Trustee (Hong Kong) Limited.
