************************************************************

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department will organise the Community Thematic Carnival "Splendid Journey to North District" at Shek Wu Hui Playground, Sheung Shui, this Sunday afternoon (November 20) from 2.30pm to 5.30pm. The carnival will feature the rich historic and cultural background of North District, showcasing a series of performances and entertainment for the public to enjoy. Admission to all programmes is free.

Two stages will be set up at the playground to feature a variety of performances such as Sheung Shui Ho Sheung Heung's "Fa Pau" demonstration and lion dance, a live Hakka duet and Chinese operatic songs. Other performances, including drum percussion, dance, stand-up comedy, golden oldies, rap singing and more, will also be staged at the carnival.

A giant map of North District highlighting the landmarks of the district will be on display. Members of the public may vote for their favourite spots with the stickers provided. Guided tours to the different places, such as the former North District Public Library featuring European-style architecture, as well as old shops, the former Po Tak Temple at Tsun Fu Street and other famous places in Shek Wu Hui, will be held to introduce the history and monuments of North District.

People who enjoy drinking Chinese tea are invited to the tea-tasting corner. Apart from tasting tea, participants may watch tea-making demonstrations and learn about the characteristics of different types of Chinese tea. For golf fans, the golf-putting demonstrations and driving sessions will provide a good chance to play golf in a busy city centre. Carnival-goers may also try out their skills at the DIY handicrafts workshop and interactive games stalls.
