In response to media enquiries, a Government spokesman today (October 27) reminded residents that the Red Outbound Travel Alert (OTA) for Thailand (flood-hit areas including Bangkok) is still in force. Residents intending to visit these areas should adjust their travel plans and avoid non-essential travel to areas seriously affected by flooding.
According to available information, the water level of the Chao Phraya River will continue to rise as a result of high tides in the coming few days, affecting more districts of Bangkok. Flooded areas may face disruptions to fresh water and electricity supplies and transport services. Residents who are already there should pay close attention to announcements and arrangements by local authorities, stay away from the flooded areas and attend to their personal safety.
At present, the Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok is operating normally, but Don Muang Airport has been closed. Airline services from Bangkok to Hong Kong continue to operate. Residents should pay attention to possible announcements by the relevant organisations.
The Security Bureau will continue to closely monitor the situation and issue updates through the media and the OTA webpage (www.sb.gov.hk/eng/ota).
