Hospital Authority announces senior appointment (with photos)

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The Hospital Authority (HA) today (September 29) announces the appointment of Ms Margaret Cheung Sau-ling as the Head of Corporate Services at HA Head Office and Dr Hobby Cheung as the Hospital Chief Executive (HCE) of Kowloon Hospital (KH) and Hong Kong Eye Hospital (HKEH). Their appointments will be effective from October 17, 2011 and September 30, 2011 respectively.

     Ms Cheung is a seasoned senior executive in the Hong Kong Government.  She is currently holding a Principal Executive Officer post in the Transport Department responsible for licensing work.  Ms Cheung has worked in various bureaux and departments since joining the Government in 1984, including, for example, the former Health and Welfare Branch, the Water Supplies Department, the former Commerce and Industry Bureau, the Department of Health, the Joint Secretariat for the Advisory Bodies on Civil Service and Judicial Salaries and Conditions of Service, and the Civil Service Bureau before her current posting.  She possesses extensive management experience and indepth knowledge of the public service and public healthcare system.

     While Dr Cheung is currently the Chief of Service (COS) of the Department of Rehabilitation of KH, he has served as the Deputising HCE of KH and HKEH since January 2011.

     Dr Cheung is a physician by background.  He has worked in both public and private sectors.  He joined the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine in KH in 1994.  Prior to his current COS appointment, Dr Cheung has been Senior Medical Officer and subsequently Consultant in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine in KH since 1995 and 2007 respectively.

     Dr Cheung has made significant contributions in the development of rehabilitation medicine.  He has led various committees at hospital and cluster level and steered a number of corporate initiatives in the field of rehabilitation medicine in the HA such as the implementation of Care for Carer Programme in the Department of Rehabilitation and the Participatory Work Safety Improvement Project.  Dr Cheung has also assumed leading roles in different professional organisations and non-government organisations in his professional field.

     The HA Chief Executive, Dr Leung Pak-yin congratulates Ms Cheung and Dr Cheung on their new appointment and wishes them every success in taking up the new roles.
