The Vice-Premier of the State Council, Mr Li Keqiang, who arrived in Hong Kong earlier today (August 16), started a hectic visit programme this afternoon.

Accompanied by the Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, the first stop on the Vice-Premier's programme was the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (TWGHs) Wong Cho Tong Social Service Building, where the Wong Cho Tong Care and Attention Home and the Wong Cho Tong Day Care Centre for the Elderly are housed.

Mr Li was met by the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung; the Director of Social Welfare, Mr Patrick Nip; and the Chairman of TWGHs, Mr Chang Juo-hwa.

Mr Li looked on as elderly residents received physiotherapy services and enjoyed singing and handicraft lessons. He was briefed on the home-care services for the elderly and learnt how home-care service teams prepare the meal delivery service.

He chatted with the elderly and wished them good health and longevity.

Before his departure, Mr Li presented the elderly with a 55-inch colour television set and an electrical stand-up wheelchair.

Next on the programme was a visit to the Hong Kong Housing Authority Exhibition Centre in Ho Man Tin. The Secretary for Transport and Housing, Ms Eva Cheng, briefed Mr Li on the development of public housing in Hong Kong and the work of the Housing Authority.

Mr Li then paid home visits to a grassroots family and a middle-class family in Lam Tin to learn more about Hong Kong people's livelihoods.
