"The Government takes concerns over external lighting seriously," said the Secretary for the Environment, Mr Edward Yau. "With members drawn from professional bodies, relevant trades and green groups, the Task Force will be a good forum to forge stronger community consensus for tackling external lighting issues, as well as to develop the technical standards and related supplementary parameters on appropriate lighting levels acceptable in local circumstances," said Mr Yau.

The Task Force is also tasked with stepping up publicity and public education in the area of external lighting, as well as advising on the way forward to tackle nuisance and energy wastage caused by external lighting, taking into consideration international experience and practices.

The Environment Bureau will provide secretariat support to the Task Force, and government departments including the Environmental Protection Department, the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, the Buildings Department, the Planning Department and the Department of Health will also provide support for the work of the Task Force.
