Update on cluster of respiratory symptoms cases in male long-stay ward in Castle Peak Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     Regarding the announcement earlier on a male long-stay ward in which some patients had presented with respiratory symptoms, the spokesperson for Castle Peak Hospital gave the following update today (June 22):

     One more 57-year-old patient in the ward has presented with respiratory symptoms. Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patient and the test results are pending. The patient concerned is being treated under isolation and is in stable condition.  

     Admission to the ward has been suspended and restricted visiting to the ward has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.

     The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up measures.
