***********************************************************

Thousands of spectators enjoyed the London Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival in London Docklands on June 19 (London time), which also helped to raise money for local Chinese charities.

Londoners of all ages and nationalities enjoyed the London Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival 2011, which took place at the London Regatta Centre in the Royal Albert Dock. The festival was once again sponsored by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, London, and organised by the London Chinatown Lions Club, with the support of the Hong Kong Executives Club.

As well as a full day of racing involving 26 teams, the event raised money for five local Chinese community organisations. Teams made up of rowers from corporate and public sector organisations competed in heats along the 200-metre course.

Acting Director-General of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, London, Mr Andy Lam said, "I am delighted that the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office is again supporting the London Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival. This event has become one of London's most colourful community sport and cultural events. I am thrilled to see the enthusiasm and support for this signature event."

For spectators - and rowers between races - there was an afternoon of cultural performances including lion and dragon dancing, kite-flying and live music, as well as food and market stalls, plus a replica of the famous Hong Kong Wishing Tree. Public information about the London Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival 2011 is available at www.lclc.co.uk .
