SLW speaks on relief measures for Ma Tau Wai Road fire victims (with photos)
*******************************************************

Following is the transcript (English portion) of remarks by the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, after visiting residents affected by the Ma Tau Wai Road fire this morning (June 15):

Reporter: (Inaudible)

Secretary for Labour and Welfare: We have taken prompt action to provide relief for the victims affected. Up to now, we have registered altogether 53 people from 29 families. We believe that there are over 40 families living in this seven-storey-high tenement building at 111-113 Ma Tau Wai Road. We are very sad that three people died in the fire and we attach great importance to helping all the victims financially, in terms of housing and also in terms of anything that we can do to help them. We will certainly investigate into the cause of the fire.

Reporter: (Inaudible)

Secretary for Labour and Welfare: That's right, we are mobilising the charitable funds. In fact, a very kind donor has already donated $2,000 cash for every family this morning and the Lok Sin Tong will also come up with $5,000 per family this afternoon. More support will be coming.
