2011 Voter Registration Campaign launched (with photo)

     The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Henry Tang; the Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Stephen Lam; and the Chairman of the Electoral Affairs Commission, Mr Justice Barnabas Fung; officiated at the launching ceremony for the 2011 Voter Registration Campaign today (June 11) at Citywalk 2, Tsuen Wan.

     Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Tang underlined the increasingly important role of elected members of the District Councils in the Chief Executive and Legislative Council elections. He called on eligible persons to register as voters before the registration deadline on July 16, so that they can vote in the District Council election in November.

     Registered voters who have changed address should inform the Registration and Electoral Office (REO) by August 29.

     Also taking part in the ceremony were the Director of Home Affairs, Mrs Pamela Tan; the Acting Director of Broadcasting, Mr Gordon Leung; and Miss Sherry Tsai, who is one of the Voter Registration Ambassadors and an outstanding athlete. A number of Legislative Council members and District Council Chairmen and Vice-chairmen also showed up to support the campaign.

     The ceremony was jointly organised by the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau and Radio Television Hong Kong. The REO also set up voter registration counters at the event venue today.
