Senior management of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao police held the 17th Tripartite CID Headsˇ¦ Meeting in Hong Kong today (June 9) with a view to strengthening co-operation in the fight against cross-boundary crime and enhance public order in the three places.

Led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Mr Tang Kam-moon, representatives of the Hong Kong Police Force met with the delegates from Guangdong and Macau at the Police Headquarters in Wan Chai.

The Deputy Director-General of Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department, Mr He Guangping, led the Guangdong delegation while the Commissioner General of Unitary Police Service, Mr Jose Proenca Branco, headed the Macao team.

At the meeting, the tripartite CID (Criminal Investigation Department) heads exchanged views on the challenges encountered in the fight against cross-boundary crime and discussed various strategies adopted. They also reviewed the existing tripartite co-operation and liaison mechanism, and studied ways to further enhance their partnership.

ˇ§Besides further cementing our ties with our Mainland and Macau counterparts with regard to the exchange of criminal intelligence and criminal investigation, we will continue to exert strenuous efforts to combat cross-boundary crimes through joint operations,ˇ¨ said Mr Tang.

The meeting also had a thorough discussion on enhancing training for tripartite criminal investigators and strengthening official visits and exchanges. The security arrangement for the World University Games (Universiade) to be held in Shenzhen in August was also discussed at the meeting.

ˇ§Hong Kong Police will collaborate with the authorities concerned to ensure the Universiade runs smoothly and is held in a safe environment,ˇ¨ Mr Tang said.

Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao police have worked in perfect harmony for years, resulting in the detection of many organised and serious crimes. It is evident that close co-operation and liaison among tripartite criminal investigation departments have contributed proactively to the fight against cross-boundary crime.
