Test results of LPG quality updated
***********************************

The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) today (May 23) announced on its website the latest results of tests on LPG quality. The EMSD has strengthened LPG sampling after the finding of non-complying LPG quality supplied by Chevron in respect of the ratio of propane/propylene and butane/butylene contents in April. Since then, the EMSD collected 24 LPG samples, for which all laboratory test results have shown that the LPG quality complies with Auto-LPG Specification.

In addition, the EMSD has been vetting the independent third-party test reports submitted by LPG supply companies for each shipment to ensure that the quality of imported LPG complies with the specified requirements.

The detailed results of the tests on the quality of LPG samples are published and updated on a weekly basis and are obtainable from the EMSD website, www.emsd.gov.hk/emsd/eng/sgi/lpg_smpl_analysis.shtml, or upon request via the EMSD's hotline, 2333 3762.

The spokesman said, "The department has been maintaining a 24-hour hotline since early January 2010 to monitor and follow up on the stalling of LPG vehicles. As at May 22, 2011, there have been 195 reports of engine stalling incidents via the hotline, with the majority received in early 2010. From February 25, 2011, till May 22, 2011, the hotline did not receive any reports of stalling incidents."

"Should an LPG vehicle be found with irregularities or malfunctions during operation, the vehicle owner should as soon as possible arrange for the vehicle to be inspected and repaired by a competent person with relevant experience and training according to the maintenance manuals of vehicle manufacturers", added the spokesman.
