Authorisation for protection works for Sha Tin to Central Link rail project gazetted
**********************************************************

     The Government published an authorisation notice in the Gazette today (May 13) on the proposed dredging and temporary filling works at the foreshore and seabed of Causeway Bay Typhoon Shelter (CBTS). The key purpose of the works is to provide the requisite land for the construction of the Sha Tin to Central Link (SCL) protection works.

     The proposed works include 0.7 hectares of temporary reclamation, construction of a temporary piled jetty, a temporary sea wall about 340 metres long and dredging at the southeastern corner of the CBTS for temporary reprovision of an anchorage area.

     The project is scheduled to begin at the end of 2011 for completion by early 2014.

     The SCL protection works will be carried out under a contract of the Central-Wan Chai Bypass (CWB) project, for which temporary reclamation works are in progress. The proposed protection works will enable the SCL and CWB tunnels to share the same temporary reclamation of land at the same location and avoid duplication of reclamation. This can protect the harbour and optimise the use of resources, as well as shorten the construction time. This arrangement can also minimise disturbance to CBTS users.

     Any person who considers that he has an interest, right or easement in or over the foreshore and seabed involved which will be injuriously affected by the above reclamation works may deliver a written claim for compensation to the Director of Lands, 20/F, North Point Government Offices, 333 Java Road, North Point, by May 13, 2012.

     The authorisation notice together with its related plan are available for public inspection at the following government offices during office hours:
(i) Lands Department Survey and Mapping Office, 23/F, North Point Government Offices, 333 Java Road, North Point;
(ii) Eastern District Office, Public Enquiry Service Centre, G/F, Eastern Law Courts Building, 29 Tai On Street, Sai Wan Ho, Hong Kong.

     Members of the public can also browse the information at the Lands Department website (www.landsd.gov.hk). Copies of the plan can also be purchased on order at the Lands Department Survey and Mapping Office.
