The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, visited Caritas Fanling Chan Chun Ha Secondary School this afternoon (April 1) to find out more about how the school helps students prepare for working life.
Accompanied by the school supervisor, Mr Lee Shung-tak, and school principal, Mr Cheng Chun-fat, Mr Cheung first toured the school campus to gain an understanding of the students' learning environment and involvement in extra-curricular activities.
He learned that the school has adopted a diversified curriculum, helping students develop their potential through a wide range of applied learning courses leading to a variety of career paths.
He was pleased to hear that the school also provides a range of career-oriented workshops, allowing students to identify personal goals and upgrade job-seeking skills.
Additionally, Mr Cheung learned that the school has successfully helped students to prepare for employment by mobilising community resources. This has included collaboration with the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups in launching the "Shepherd's Dream" Youth Employment Concern Project with the support of the Community Investment and Inclusion Fund. Through the provision of internship opportunities by business partners, the project has helped students prepare for entering the labour market.
Mr Cheung was delighted to have the opportunity to chat with a group of upper form students and hear about their further education and career aspirations. He encouraged them to keep up their good work and make use of the diversified curriculum offered by the school to equip themselves for future challenges.
He noted that students who intended to join the workforce could utilise the Labour Department's various employment services for young people, such as "Youth Employment Start", the "Youth Pre-employment Training Programme and Youth Work Experience and Training Scheme".
The former offers one-stop services ranging from career guidance, employment and self-employment support while the latter provides pre-employment and on-the-job training.
