Appointments to Employees Retraining Board

     The Government announced today (March 11) the re-appointment of Dr Ng Tat-lun as Chairman of the Employees Retraining Board (ERB), and the appointment of Mr William Leung Wing-cheung as Vice-Chairman.  The new membership of the Board, which will take effect on April 1, 2011, comprises -

     The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, welcomed the re-appointment of Dr Ng Tat-lun and the six other incumbent members.  He also welcomed the appointment of Mr William Leung Wing-cheung, an incumbent member since 2008, as the vice-chairman, as well as the five newly appointed members.  The newly appointed members are Ms Winnie Ng Wing-mui, Mr Chung Wai-ping, Mr Pun Tin-chi, Ms Christine Wong Siu-ping and Mrs Mimi Cunningham.

     "I am confident that under Dr Ng Tat-lun's capable leadership and with the dedicated support of all members, the Board will continue to provide comprehensive and quality training and retraining services for our local workers with a view to enhancing their competitiveness and employability in response to market needs, including the possible changes in the labour market following the implementation of the statutory minimum wage," Mr Cheung said.

     He also thanked the outgoing Vice-chairman Mrs Agnes Mak Tang Pik-yee, and members Mr Stephen Yuen Ching-bor, Mr Lau Chin-shek, Mr Yeung Ka-sing and Ms Virginia Choi Wai-kam for their sterling contribution to the Board during their tenure of service.  

     ERB is a statutory body established in 1992 under the Employees Retraining Ordinance (Cap. 423).  The composition of its membership, comprising representatives of employers and employees, and persons connected with vocational training and retraining or manpower planning, is specified in the law. It is responsible for providing retraining courses and related placement services under the Manpower Development Scheme.
