The Government announced today (February 25) the appointment of Mr Romeo Au Pak-ching as the Chairman of the Review Committee on Trust Fund for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) for a term of two years with effect from March 1.
Mr Au is a barrister and has a solid public service record. He is the incumbent Chairman of the Prisoners' Education Trust Fund Committee and a member of the Criminal and Law Enforcement Injuries Compensation Boards.
The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, welcomed the appointment. He also thanked the outgoing chairman, Mr Jat Sew-tong, for his valuable contribution during his tenure.
The Review Committee was set up in 2003 to consider applications for review of the decisions made by the Committee on Trust Fund for SARS. Assistance under the Trust Fund to recovered and suspected SARS patients is subject to regular assessment of their medical and financial conditions.
