Two employers ordered to pay MPF contributions

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (January 27) successfully pursued two claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $18,000 for three employees who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At the Tribunal's hearings today, two defendants, namely Happy China Corporation Limited and Shing Pong (China-HK) Cargo Services Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $13,100.96 and $5,880 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The Adjudicator further ordered the defendants to pay $145 and $96 respectively as the costs of the claims.
