Lunar New Year thematic lantern exhibition at Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza (with photos)
********************************************************

Showcasing over 170 colourful lanterns, a thematic lantern exhibition entitled "Rejoice! Happy New Year!" will light up the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza to add colour to the festive season.

Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the exhibition will run until March 6. Admission is free.

With myriad differences in history, culture and religion, Asian countries celebrate the New Year in different ways. "Rejoice! Happy New Year!" features the customs of various Asian countries in celebrating the New Year, including China, Japan, Korea, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. The lantern displays will fill the piazza with festive spirits.

Exhibits include colourful Chinese "lion dance" lanterns accompanied by a big drum; lanterns featuring the tug of war with elephants in Thailand; a Japanese game "Hagoita" (a traditional Japanese game similar to badminton) and Koreans in traditional costumes. There are also floating lotus lanterns on the piazza pools and LED lights inside lanterns on the boats producing candlelight effect.

For more information on the lantern displays, please visit the website, www.lcsd.gov.hk/eo, or call 2591 1340 during office hours.
