Appointments to Women's Commission announced

     The Government today (January 14) announced the appointment of five new members and the re-appointment of two incumbent members to the Women's Commission (WoC) with effect from January 15.

     The five new members are Dr Maggie Koong May-kay, Ms Catherine Wong Pui-yee, Mr Robert Wong Yao-wing, Ms Sandy Wong Hang-yee and Ms Constance Yue Mui-ying.  

     Dr Maggie Koong May-kay is the Chief Principal of Victoria Educational Organisation and Victoria Shanghai Academy. She is currently a member of the Family Council and the Nursing Council of Hong Kong, as well as a council member of the Hong Kong Federation of Women.

     Ms Catherine Wong Pui-yee is the Retail Marketing Manager of the Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited. She is a member of the Sub-Committee on Promotion of Corporate Volunteering and was a member of the Advisory Committee on Enhancing Employment of People with Disabilities.

     Mr Robert Wong Yao-wing is a Deputy Chairman of Inno-Tech Holdings Limited and the Chairman of the Samaritan Befrienders Hong Kong.

     Ms Sandy Wong Hang-yee is currently a consultant of the Boughton Peterson Yang Anderson and a legal counsel of the Maxim's Caterers Limited. She was the former President of the Hong Kong Federation of Women Lawyers. Ms Wong is currently a member of the Steering Committee of Child Development Fund and the Supplementary Medical Professions Council.

     Ms Constance Yue Mui-ying is the Principal Social Services Secretary of Po Leung Kuk. She is also a member of the Lotteries Fund Advisory Committee.

     Two incumbent members, Dr Polly Cheung Suk-yee and Dr Leung Lai-ching, are re-appointed. They have been serving on the WoC since 2009 and have contributed significantly to the work of the WoC during their tenure.

     The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, welcomed the appointments and re-appointments. He said, "The members come from a diverse background, with vast experience in their professions and community services.  Members from women's groups and women professional bodies are also included. I look forward to their expert advice on the work of the WoC."

     He also thanked the five outgoing members, Dr Miranda Chan Lai-foon, Ms Jacqueline Cheng Ming-fung, Ms Lau Ka-shi, Ms Joanna Lau Lai-hing and Dr Yeung Ka-ching, for their sterling contribution and dedication to the work of the WoC.

     The WoC was set up on January 15, 2001, as a central mechanism to promote the well-being and interests of women in Hong Kong. It plays a strategic role in advising the Government on policies and initiatives on women's issues.
