The Government today (December 23) announced the re-appointment of Managing Director of Jardine Matheson Group, Mr Anthony Nightingale, and Chairman of PCCW Limited, Mr Richard Li, as Hong Kong's representatives to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Business Advisory Council (ABAC), starting from January 1, 2011.

Speaking highly of the services rendered by Mr Nightingale and Mr Li, the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mrs Rita Lau, said, "The Government is very grateful to Mr Nightingale and Mr Li for their valuable contribution to various ABAC activities as Hong Kong's representatives.  Both of them are held in high esteem in ABAC, and have helped raise Hong Kong's profile in this important regional business forum.

"With their wealth of business experience, I believe the Hong Kong ABAC team will make further important contributions, and ensure that APEC's agenda continues to be relevant to the interests of the business community."

Mr Nightingale and Mr Li already serve as Hong Kong's representatives to ABAC, but their current term will expire at the end of this year.  Hong Kong's other incumbent representative to ABAC is Chairman of Shui On Holdings Limited, Mr Vincent Lo.

ABAC was established in 1996 as a permanent business advisory body to provide advice to APEC on business sector priorities for implementing its goal towards free and open trade and investment in the Asia-Pacific region.
