Three employers ordered to pay MPF contributions

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (November 4) successfully pursued three claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $52,000 for eight employees who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At the Tribunal's hearing today, one of the defendants, Lipton Wong Asia Pacific Co. Limited, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA $44,221.23 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable. The Adjudicator also ordered the company to pay the MPFA $5,000 as financial penalty.

     The other two defendants, namely Arcadia Asia Limited and Power Properties Management Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $4,553.56 and $3,241.04 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The Adjudicator further ordered the defendants to pay $176, $154 and $110 respectively as the costs of the claim.
