The Steering Committee on the Promotion of Volunteer Service of the Social Welfare Department today (November 4) presented awards to seven corporations in appreciation of their outstanding volunteer services.
Officiating at the 2010 Seminar on Corporate Volunteering cum Award Presentation Ceremony were the Deputy Director of Social Welfare (Services), Mr Cheung Hing-wah, and the Convener of the Sub-Committee on Promotion of Corporate Volunteering, Mr Herman Hui.
Mr Cheung and Mr Hui shared their views on "Acting Out Corporate Social Responsibility through Volunteering" and "The Vision of Cross-sector Collaboration in Corporate Volunteering - Stargaze Camp for All and the Blind" respectively, with over 200 participants from corporate and welfare sectors attending the Seminar.
Mr Cheung also presented awards to the winners of the 2009-10 Best Corporate Volunteer Service Project Competition. The winners are as follows:

Certificates were also presented to 32 graduates of the 5th Corporate Volunteer Training Course and 26 corporations and welfare agencies, which provided 10,000 hours of volunteer service in 2009.
The Steering Committee on the Promotion of Volunteer Service has promoted the Volunteer Movement since 1998. The Sub-Committee on Promotion of Corporate Volunteering was later set up to encourage corporations to take part in volunteer services to help those in need, with a view to fostering a harmonious society in Hong Kong. As at September 30, 2010, the Steering Committee had registered about 930,000 volunteers and over 2,090 organisations in support of volunteering. The latest annual total service hours record exceeded 21 million hours.
