Four employers ordered to pay MPF contributions

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (November 3) successfully pursued four claims in the Small Claims Tribunal amounting to about $46,000, on behalf of eight employees who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At the hearing today, four defendants, namely Christopher Limited, Kidco Limited, Lam Kei Fung trading as Bun Hui Restaurant and Chang Kuen Kin and Wong Tat Kong trading as Dr.  Shirley K.K. Chang's Dental Clinic, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $35,015, $9,830, $901.73 and $800.58 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amount awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The Adjudicator further ordered the defendants to pay $176, $81, $265 and $114 respectively as the costs of the claim.
