The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (October 29) successfully pursued six claims in the Small Claims Tribunal totalling about $69,000 on behalf of 14 employees who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
At the Tribunal's hearing today, two defendants, namely View Rise Limited and Top-Pro Environmental Technology Limited, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $24,420 and $3,714.56 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The other four defendants, namely the Incorporated Owners of Man On Building Man On Street, Hang Fung Vacuumforming Manufactory Limited, Toys Station Co. Limited and Wu Kwok Kuen, Alex trading as Alex Wu & Company, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $8,250, $6,303.26, $5,633.06 and $408.50 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amount awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The Adjudicator further ordered the defendants to pay $126, $96, $175, $129, $135 and $99 respectively as the costs of the claim.
