In Hong Kong's early years, many Chinese children were deprived of schooling. The general committee of the Man Mo Temple began discussions on founding a free school in 1879, and this school was taken over by the Tung Wah Hospital in 1880. This free school marked the start of Tung Wah's efforts to promote public education. This photograph shows the joint school examination of 1948 where Tung Wah students sat examinations in the main hall of Tung Wah Hospital. |
