Tripartite counter-terrorism and anti-illegal immigration exercise held (with photos)
**********************************************************

A counter-terrorism and anti-illegal immigration exercise was held at Mirs Bay (Shenzhen), Tung Ping Chau (Hong Kong) and Hengqin Port (Zhuhai) by the Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau Police authorities this afternoon (October 25). The aim of the excercise was to enhance the tripartite counter-terrorism coordinated contingency mechanism and to improve channels and measures of cooperation.

The exercise simulated a situation in which an international crime syndicate planned to enter the Mainland and launch an attack. In such an event, it is possible that destructive dangerous goods would be carried.

Upon receipt of the excercise intelligence, the Guangdong police immediately informed the Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF). After investigating, the Hong Kong Police believed that the syndicate intended to enter Shenzhen via Hong Kong by sea and Zhuhai via Macau by land.

During the simulation excercise, the three police forces took simultaneous action at 3pm today, conducting interceptions at Mirs Bay near Shenzhen and Tung Ping Chau in Hong Kong, as well as conducting search and control operations at Hengqin Port, Zhuhai. As a result, criminals were arrested and suspected destructive dangerous goods were seized.

A police spokesman said that the exercise had achieved the desired effect. It successfully tested the effectiveness of intelligence exchange between the three authorities and strengthened the sea and land coordinated contingency mechanism. In addition, it further enhanced the joint counter-terrorism capability of the three police forces and prepared them for the upcoming Asian Games in Guangzhou.
