The RTHK Quartet will give a concert in December, playing Mozart's "String Quartet No.4 in C", Debussy's "String Quartet", and performing with guest pianist Nancy Loo, Schumann's "Piano Quintet in E-flat".
The RTHK Quartet was founded in 2009 by Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK). The four outstanding musicians are violinists Ayako Ichimaru (Japan) and Le Hoai-nam (Vietnam), violist Elvis Chan (Hong Kong) and cellist Laurent Perrin (Luxembourg). Le Hoai-nam, Elvis Chan and Laurent Perrin are now with the Hong Kong Sinfonietta.
The quartet shares a passion for chamber music, and aims to promote the genre of chamber music and encourage the art of chamber music playing in Hong Kong. The group introduces to audiences the rich world of chamber music, which includes some of the most profound and powerful music ever written. While dedicated to the performance of the core classical repertoire, the quartet is also committed to commissioning and performing works by Hong Kong composers and arrangements of Chinese music.
In its first year, the quartet gave world premiere performances of works by David Gwilt and Doming Lam. They have also been featured in the televised Inauguration Concert at St John's Cathedral, concerts at RTHK Studio One, the Hong Kong Museum of Art and Lingnan University. They also gave a performance of Steve Reich's "Different Trains" at the Hell Hot! Music Festival.
Concert by the RTHK Quartet is one of the programmes of Our Music Talents series presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. It will be held at 8pm, December 7 (Tuesday), at the Theatre, Hong Kong City Hall.
