Local dance group Unlock Dancing Plaza's artistic director and choreographer Ong Yong Lock and pianist Phoebus Chan will stage the latest production "Chopin vs Ca" to blend Chopin's music into modern dance in November.
Chopin's music comes alive under the phalanges of pianist Phoebus Chan. The break-neck tempo provides the male dancers an opportunity to release their explosive energy and give a bravura performance. The dancers' limbs will be transformed into musical notes on Chopin's romantic piece, and stretch out like feelers to explore some secret corner of the city, to feel the joys and sorrows of life and living. The nutty dancers, with dynamism at dynamite-level, will barge into the lyrical realm of Chopin. A popular pianist of Hong Kong, Phoebus Chan will exercise his diverse and hypnotic best to lead the dancers into the nooks and crannies of performance including hip-hop, acrobatics, contemporary dance, dance theatre, modern dance, post-modern dance, pre-modern dance, etc.
Formed in 2002, Unlock Dancing Plaza is a promising modern dance company with a unique style in Hong Kong. It emphasises the openness of space and communication between the performers and the audience. Its production of "Phoenix II - Read the World with Your Heart" won Hong Kong Dance Award 2009.
