********************************************************

The Commercial Crime Bureau (CCB) arrested nine men and three women today (September 29) who were believed to be in connection with conspiracy to defraud.

Three companies providing yoga membership and services were closed down respectively in March, May and August this year.  Up to yesterday (September 28), the Police have received 794 complaints in which approximately HK$8 million was involved.  In view of the seriousness and cross-territorial nature of the case, CCB has consolidated all the related cases for further investigation.

After an in-depth investigation, the CCB mounted an operation today in various locations in Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories.  During the operation, the police have searched twelve locations and seven companies.  Nine men and three women, aged between twenty-three and forty-seven, were arrested so far.  The arrested persons were either directors or senior staff of the three companies.  The Police have also seized a number of exhibits in the operation, including computers, documents and company files.

The twelve persons were arrested for conspiracy to defraud and have been kept under police custody pending further investigation.  The operation is still underway.
