The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:
Regarding an earlier announcement on a male mentally handicapped ward in Tuen Mun Hospital (TMH) in which some patients had been confirmed positive for Respiratory Syncytial Virus, the hospital spokesperson made the following update today (September 28):
Two more patients (aged forty five and forty six) and two more staff members had presented with upper respiratory tract infection symptoms. The patients are being treated under isolation and in stable condition. The two staff members concerned are currently on sick leave. Appropriate viral tests had been arranged for the patients and preliminary test results were positive for Respiratory Syncytial Virus.
Admission to the ward has been suspended. Restricted visits to and discharge from the ward have been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up. Other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
