The Hong Kong District Council (DC) Chairmen's delegation continued their visit to Taichung by High Speed Rail this afternoon (September 28), and met the Mayor of Taichung City, Mr Jason Hu.

The delegation first dropped by the Confucius Temple to coincide with the birthday of Confucius today. Members then turned to the Hakka leisure and cultural promotion association in Dong Shih township to grasp first-hand information about the rehabilitation in the area after the "921" earthquake. As Dong Shih was one of the hardest hit areas in the mass earthquake on September 21, 1999, the DC chairmen were particularly concerned about its reconstruction.

Members of the delegation later called on Mayor Mr Hu and attended a banquet hosted by the Hong Kong and Macau Taiwanese Charity Fund this evening.

Prior to visiting Taichung, the delegation toured the Heritage and Culture Education Centre of Taipei this morning. Members saw the historic streets and exhibition halls in Bopiliao to know more about district revitalisation process.

The delegation will return to Hong Kong tomorrow (September 29).
