Regarding an earlier announcement on a male mentally handicapped ward of Tuen Mun Hospital (TMH) in which some patients had presented with upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) symptoms, the hospital spokesperson made the following update today (September 25):
One more patient (aged 21) had presented with URTI symptoms. The patient is being treated under isolation and in stable condition. Appropriate viral tests had been arranged for the patient and preliminary test results of the patient were positive to Respiratory Syncytial Virus. Up to now, there have been seven patients presented with URTI symptoms.
Admission to the ward has been suspended. Restricted visiting to and discharge from the ward have been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up. Other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.
The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
