The Hong Kong Government has a new chief representative in London. On September 14 (London time) Mrs Agnes Allcock, became the new Director General of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in London, replacing the retired Director General, Ms Sarah Wu.
Mrs Allcock has served in the Hong Kong civil service since 1974 and was most recently the Deputy Secretary for the Civil Service, a post she held since 2009. As the chief representative of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government in London, Mrs Allcock will play a key role in bilateral relations between the UK and Hong Kong, as well as with the eight other countries that the London office is responsible for: Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Russia and Sweden.
Mrs Allcock said,¡§I am delighted to take up this new role, and I look forward to helping to build upon our long-standing economic, business and cultural ties with the many countries this office is responsible for. There are so many opportunities ahead, and we will do our best to strengthen our working relationship in the years to come.¡¨
In her valedictory message, Ms Wu said,¡§I am very honoured to have spent such a busy, fruitful and pleasant time in London over the past nearly four and a half years, and I am thrilled to have seen my office build on the economic and cultural relationships between us. It has been my pleasure to work with colleagues to come up with new initiatives in the areas of business, music, arts, film and sports to strengthen the links between us.¡¨
