The three-day polling for the 2010 nomination of representatives of arts interests for the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC) at the Hall of the Tsim Sha Tsui District Kai Fong Welfare Association, 136A Nathan Road, Kowloon, started today (September 17). The polling centre opens from 9am to 9pm daily.
A spokesman for the Home Affairs Bureau reminded the more than 7,000 registered voters to cast their ballots. "Their votes will determine the list of representatives to be submitted to the Chief Executive for consideration for appointment to the council. Members will assist in the planning, promotion and support of the broad development of arts in Hong Kong." The new term will start on January 1, 2011.
A cross-interest voting system will continue to be adopted this year. Voters from all 10 arts interests may cast votes for candidates standing for nomination in the eight contested arts interests, i.e., arts administration, arts education, dance, film arts, literary arts, music, visual arts and Chinese opera (Xiqu). As the candidate in the arts interest of "drama" is running uncontested and no nomination was received for the arts interest of "arts criticism", no polling will be arranged for these two arts interests.
For more details about the candidates and their platforms, please visit the website, www.voteforhkadc2010.hk . For enquiries, please contact Ms Virgini Fung or Ms Mary Wong at 2232 3981 or 2232 3932.
