A talk titled "From Birdwatching to Nature Conservation" will be held at 3pm on September 26 (Sunday) at the Lecture Theatre of the Hong Kong Central Library.
The free seminar, on a first-come-first-served basis, organised by the Hong Kong Public Libraries of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, will be conducted in Cantonese.
The Associate Professor of the Department of Geography at the University of Hong Kong, Dr Ng Cho-nam, will introduce to the audience the diversity and characteristics of wild birds in Hong Kong and recent changes in their population and habitats.
He will also explore the current state of nature conservation in Hong Kong, conservation policy, and the difficulties and challenges in implementing this policy.
Dr Ng is the vice-chairman of the Hong Kong Bird Watching Society and a director of the Conservancy Association. As an experienced teacher and researcher in environmental science, he participates actively in green groups and government advisory committees.
Dr Ng was also a member of the Advisory Council on the Environment (and chairman of the Environmental Impact Assessment Subcommittee), the Commission on Strategic Development, and the Town Planning Board. He is currently serving the Antiquities Advisory Board, the Environmental Campaign Committee and the Transport Advisory Committee. He was awarded in 2004 the Bronze Bauhinia Star in recognition of his contribution to environmental protection and nature conservation in Hong Kong.
