SLW to attend APEC Ministerial Meeting in Beijing

     The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, will attend the Fifth Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) Human Resources Development Ministerial Meeting in Beijing on Thursday (September 16) and deliver a keynote speech.

     The theme of the APEC meeting is "Developing human resources, vigorously promoting employment and realising inclusive growth". Mr Cheung will give a keynote speech on "Sustaining and expanding employment - Hong Kong's experience" under the sub-theme "Devote priority attention to maintaining and expanding employment and adopt employment-oriented macro-economic polices" in the afternoon and discuss with ministers of other APEC member economies issues related to human resources development and employment.

     While in Beijing, the Secretary will also call on Minister Yin Weimin, Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security; Minister Li Liguo, Ministry of Civil Affairs, and Deputy Director Hua Jian, Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office, State Council.

     Before attending the meeting in Beijing, Mr Cheung will visit Shanghai to call on Director-General Ma Yili, Bureau of Civil Affairs and Director Zhou Haiyang, Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, to exchange views on matters of mutual interest. He will also take the opportunity to visit the Expo 2010 Shanghai China.

     Mr Cheung will depart tomorrow morning (September 14) and return on Friday evening.
