Six employers ordered to pay MPF contributions

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (September 10) pursued six claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $39,000 on behalf of 14 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At the Tribunal's hearing today, the six defendants, namely Suen Kin Chung trading as Cheong Wah Company, Tony Nedderman And Company Limited, Lively Limited, The Big Apple Sandwich Shop Limited, Gainway Cleaning Limited and Gao Cheng Accounting and Taxation (China) Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $27,351.46, $5,940.31, $2,462.25, $2,281.64, $1,274.42 and $400 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The Adjudicator further ordered the defendants to pay $159, $90, $115, $56, $79 and $46 respectively as the costs of the claims.
