As one of the five public hospitals under the Hospital Authority's Pilot Scheme of Hospital Accreditation, Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH) today (September 10) announced that the hospital was awarded full accreditation for four years by the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS) this month.  The hospital is the first public hospital accredited under this scheme.

The ACHS Organisation Wide Survey was conducted in PYNEH from June 21 to 25, 2010.  During the period, a team of 10 ACHS surveyors visited all clinical departments and service units to conduct assessments in accordance with the 45 criteria of the Evaluation of Quality Improvement Programme, covering the three functions, Clinical, Support and Corporate.

The spokesperson for the hospital said, "The ACHS surveyors commended the hospital leadership and staff on being innovative and creative in their work practices to attain a high standard in care and service delivery.  The survey team recognised the achievements by staff in their continuous quality improvement journey, the commitment to customer satisfaction, health promotion, safety, risk management and training for all staff.

"The award reaffirmed the solid foundation of PYNEH in pursuing holistic patient care and attainment of a quality system.  Since 1997, PYNEH has received local and international accreditation awards, including ISO9002, ISO 14001, National Association of Testing Authorities and Hong Kong Laboratory Accreditation Scheme."
