The Jordan Valley Park managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), featuring a radio-controlled model car racing circuit that meets international standards, has opened for public use. The racing circuit meets the keen demand of radio-controlled model car lovers for a racing circuit and is suitable for holding major radio-controlled car races.
The radio-controlled model car racing circuit is located on a wide and level terrain. There are two circuits in the park. Circuit A, which occupies about 1,800 square metres, meets international standards and is suitable for holding different types of large-scale radio-controlled model car races. Its 190-metre-long track comprises a 40-metre straight main track, an S-shaped bend, a U-shaped bend, a 90-degree bend and a pit lane. Circuit A is designed for use by larger battery-operated radio-controlled model cars between the scales of 1:8 and 1:12 by people aged over 12. The circuit also provides a covered stand for spectators and drivers. Next to the car racing circuit, there is a covered maintenance area where maintenance tables and chargers for radio-controlled model cars are provided for use during car races.
The department has already received a number of applications for organising large-scale radio-controlled model car races in late 2010.
There is a smaller-scale 41-metre-long Circuit B, which covers about 180 square metres. Members of the public of all ages can use battery-operated radio-controlled model cars between the scales of 1:10 and 1:64 on this circuit.
A group of radio-controlled model car lovers today (September 8) tested the racing circuit by using different types of radio-controlled model cars. They were satisfied with the venue facilities and encouraged model car lovers to make best use of the venue.
Circuits A and B are open daily from 9am to 9.30pm. Individual users may enjoy the facilities during the opening hours and no prior booking is required. Organisations planning to organise car races in the circuits may make reservations at the Jordan Valley Park office three months in advance.
Jordan Valley Park is located at No. 71, New Clear Water Bay Road, adjacent to the Shun Lee Disciplined Services Quarters. It is built on the restored Jordan Valley landfill. The Environmental Protection Department has installed pollution control facilities at the landfill to ensure that the site is safe for public use. Following the landfill restoration work, the site was developed into a park by the LCSD for the enjoyment of the public. The park, which is the largest in Kwun Tong District, covers a total area of about 6.3 hectares.
Besides the radio-controlled model car racing circuits, other park facilities include a bougainvillea garden, a four seasons garden, a maze garden and central lawns of 10,000 square metres. The park also provides facilities for people of all ages to relax and do exercises, including jogging tracks, fitness stations, childrenˇ¦s play areas and an elderly fitness area.
In addition, the horticultural education centre at the park, due to open in mid-September, will organise seminars on horticulture and planting skills from time to time to enhance the publicˇ¦s knowledge and skills in horticulture and greening. The remaining facilities of the park, including a greenhouse and a community garden, are scheduled for opening by the end of 2010.
Jordan Valley Park is open daily from 5am to 11pm. Details of the opening hours of the horticultural education centre and the community garden are available at the LCSD webpage: www.lcsd.gov.hk . The car park at the park provides 27 fee-paying parking spaces. The park is accessible by public transport (bus route nos. 23, 23M, 26, 26M, 27, 29M, 42, 91, 91M, 92 and 95; green minibus route nos. 12, 47, 48, 49, 54, 54S, 60 and 104).
