A total of 172 fixed penalty tickets (FPTs) and 162 summonses were issued to motorists and pedestrians who violated traffic regulations during an operation by Traffic Kowloon East yesterday (September 7).
The Kowloon East Regional Traffic Day was conducted between 7am and 11pm yesterday and 222 officers from Traffic Kowloon East and District Traffic Teams of Wong Tai Sin, Sau Mau Ping and Kwun Tong were deployed to enforce regulations at traffic accident black spots and potential traffic accident locations in the Kowloon East Region.
Another 269 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and other parking offences.
A total of 208 pedestrians and 33 drivers were verbally warned for jaywalking and other minor traffic offences.
Meanwhile, pamphlets and leaflets on road safety message were distributed to road users.
Statistics show that a total of 1,254 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred in the Kowloon East Region from January to August 2010.
