Police are appealing for information on a case in which the body of a newborn baby boy was found in North Point this afternoon (September 7).
About 12.30pm, Police received a report that a baby's body had been found inside a sewage pipe on the podium of a building on Wharf Road.
Police officers sped to the scene and located the body inside the pipe. Initial examination revealed that the body, with its umbilical cord attached, was a newborn boy.
A post-mortem examination will be conducted later to ascertain the cause of the baby's death.
Investigations by District Crime Squad of Eastern are proceeding.
Police appeal to next-of-kin of the baby boy and members of the public who may have information to contact the investigating officers on 2880 4266.
