Southern District Council by-election poll cards sent to electors
*********************************************************

More than 5,000 registered electors in Pokfulam constituency should have received poll cards for the Southern District Council by-election on September 5.

"Electors who have not yet received their poll cards can make enquiries at the election hotline on 2891 1001," a spokesman for the Registration and Electoral Office (REO) said today (August 26).

"Electors are reminded to read carefully the address of the designated polling station on the poll card indicating where they should cast their votes," he said.

The REO has sent to every elector in Pokfulam constituency a poll card, a map indicating the location of the designated polling station, a guide on voting procedure, an introductory leaflet on the candidates and a leaflet from the Independent Commission Against Corruption on clean elections.

Three polling stations will open to electors from 7.30am to 10.30pm on the polling day.  They are located at the Caritas Wu Cheng-chung Secondary School, 8 Northcote Close, Pokfulam; the playground of Upper Baguio Villa, Baguio Villa, 555 Victoria Road, Pokfulam; and Cyberport Post Office, Shops 5-8, Level 1, Service Annex, Cyberport, 100 Cyberport Road.

Arrangements will be made to facilitate imprisoned, remanded and detained persons, who are registered electors of Pokfulam constituency, to cast their votes in the by-election.

Arrangements will be made for electors of Pokfulam constituency who are remanded or detained by law enforcement agencies (other than the Correctional Services Department) to cast their votes at the dedicated polling station located at the Happy Valley Police Station, 60 Sing Woo Road, Happy Valley.  The polling hours will be from 7.30am to 10.30pm.

Should there be any elector of Pokfulam constituency imprisoned or remanded in the Correctional Services Department's custody on the polling day, a dedicated polling station will be set up in the respective penal institutions for the imprisoned or remanded electors of that institution to cast their votes.  The REO will make an announcement on the opening of dedicated polling stations at penal institutions on September 4.  For security reasons, the polling hours of the dedicated polling stations set up in penal institutions will be from 9am to 4pm.

"The voting procedure for electors and the venue set up at the dedicated polling stations is basically the same as that of the ordinary polling stations," the spokesman said.

The two candidates contesting the by-election are: No. 1, Lau Ying-tung; and No. 2, Paulus Johannes Zimmerman.
