Cluster of Human Influenza A (H3) cases in Castle Peak Hospital male ward reported

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson for Castle Peak Hospital (CPH) made the following announcement today (August 20):
   
     Six patients (aged 29 to 56) in a male ward of CPH have presented with fever and flu symptoms since August 16. Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patients. Test results of five patients were positive for Human Influenza A (H3) while the result of the remaining patient is pending. The patients are being treated under isolation and all are in stable condition.
  
     Admission to the ward has been suspended.  Restricted visits to and discharge from the ward have been imposed and infection control measures have been stepped up. All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for follow up.
