"Foreign Affiliates Trade in Services Statistics for Hong Kong"
With increasing globalisation of the world economy, it becomes popular for multinational enterprises to provide services to customers in another economy through setting up affiliated companies abroad.
In view of the growing importance of services supplied via this mode, C&SD has developed a statistical framework for compiling relevant statistics, known as foreign affiliates trade in services (FATS) statistics. This feature article introduces the statistical system for compiling inward FATS statistics, and presents selected inward FATS statistics for Hong Kong in 2008. It also gives a brief account of the development of Hong Kong¡¦s outward FATS statistics.

"Port Transhipment Cargo Statistics, 2004 to 2009"
Port transhipment cargo movements have contributed significantly to the growth of port cargo throughput of Hong Kong in recent years. With an average annual growth rate of 4.5% between 2004 and 2009, port transhipment cargo movements took up 52.7% of port cargo throughput in 2009. In particular, port transhipment cargo movements between Hong Kong and the mainland of China (the Mainland) accounted for the largest share (41.1%) of Hong Kong's port transhipment cargo. About 73.6% of Mainland-Hong Kong port transhipment cargo movements were between Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta region. This feature article provides a detailed analysis of the port transhipment cargo statistics of Hong Kong from 2004 to 2009.

"Statistics on Sectoral Concentration"
A wide range of statistical indicators can be compiled from the results of annual economic surveys conducted by C&SD for analysing the business situation and performance of various economic sectors in Hong Kong. Among others, statistics on sectoral concentration can throw light on the extent of business concentration within individual sectors.
This feature article analyses the extent of business concentration in selected economic sectors of Hong Kong by making reference to the Concentration Ratios and Herfindahl-Hirschman Indices compiled in terms of business receipts in 2007 and 2008.

"Hong Kong Population Projections 2010¡V2039"
An updated set of population projections, using the mid-2009 population estimate as the base and covering the period from 2010 to 2039, has been prepared by C&SD. In compiling the projections, the Department has made use of up-to-date information on fertility, mortality and movement patterns of the population which have emerged since the compilation of the last set of population projections.
Results of the latest population projections were announced in a press conference held on July 29, 2010 and a publication Hong Kong Population Projections 2010¡V2039 was published on the same day. This feature article provides a brief account of the projection method, assumptions and results based on information extracted from that publication.
