Influenza A cases in a male ward at Kwai Chung Hospital reported

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson of Kwai Chung Hospital made the following announcement today (August 17):

     Ten patients (aged from 26 to 80) in a male ward have presented with symptoms of fever and flu since August 13. The patients' viral test results are positive for Influenza A. Three of the patients have been transferred to Princess Margaret Hospital for treatment under isolation and are in stable condition. The hospital will continue to provide treatment to the remaining seven patients and closely monitor their condition.

     Admission and visits to the ward concerned are suspended and infection control measures in the ward have been stepped up.  All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.  

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for follow up.
