Five employers ordered to pay MPF contributions

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (August 16) pursued five claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $53,000 on behalf of eight employees, who were owed Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) contributions by their employers.

     At the Tribunal's hearing today, the defendant, Lock's Building Materials Company Limited, did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $6,300, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other four defendants, namely Ng Chun Wa trading as Chun Hung Transp Co., Goldwin Technology Development Limited, Oakhill Limited and Classic Perfect Product Co., Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $27,720, $14,700, $4,165 and $150 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The Adjudicator further ordered the defendants to pay $96, $159, $66, $66 and $52 respectively as the costs of the claims.
