Government concerned over impact on tourists caused by wildfires in Russia

The HKSAR Government today (August 8) expressed concern over the impact on tourists as a result of the smog caused by wildfires in Russia, a government spokesman said today, adding there is no need to issue an Outbound Travel Alert for Russia at the moment. Hong Kong tourists who are currently staying in Moscow or nearby areas are advised to reduce physical exertion and outdoor activities.
"At the same time, we have liaised with the travel industry, advising Hong Kong tour groups which have departed for Russia to pay attention to the air quality there. They should try their best to stay indoors, avoiding areas with high level of air pollution. They should also adjust their travel itineraries if needed and according to the local situation," the spokesman added.

Residents who need assistance while outside Hong Kong may call the 24-hour hotline of the Assistance to Hong Kong Residents Unit of the Immigration Department at (852) 1868.
