Recall of Chinese medicine product with exceeding microbial limit (with photos)

The Department of Health (DH) today (August 5) urged members of the public not to buy or use a Chinese medicine product named "Hai Keow Yu" as the total microbial count of the product was found to have exceeded the maximum permitted limit by Macau Health Bureau during a recent market surveillance.

The concerned product (batch no. SA20411) is manufactured by a local proprietary Chinese medicines manufacturer called Singapore Medicine Co.

A DH spokesman said investigation into the product was made immediately after receiving a referral from Macau Health Bureau regarding the recall of the product in Macau this afternoon.

In view of the detection of exceeding microbial limit by the Macau health authority, as a precautionary measure, DH has instructed the manufacturer to recall the concerned product from the market.

The DH has inspected the premises of the manufacturer today.

     Investigation is ongoing.

The spokesman said: "Members of the public who have purchased the product are advised to stop using it, dispose of the product or return it to the manufacturer. "

Members of the public can call the manufacturer's hotline at 2498 9940 or 9461 8449 for enquiries about recall arrangements.

He said:  "They should seek medical attention if feeling unwell after using the product."

     DH will monitor the recall.
