Wounding case in Sha Tin reclassified as murder

     Police today (July 27) reclassified a wounding case in Sha Tin on June 28 as murder.

     About 8.42am on June 28, Police received a report that a 59-year-old man was in dispute with his 40-year-old wife in a unit at Pai Tau Tsuen on Pai Tau Street in Sha Tin. The woman was poured with some suspected corrosive fluid and sustained severe head injury. Splashed by few drops of the fluid, the man sustained limbs burns and their 9-year-old daughter sustained burns on her face and limbs. The three injured persons were sent to Prince of Wales Hospital for medical treatment in which the 40-year-old woman was in unconscious state.

     After initial investigation, Police arrested the man for wounding on the same day (June 28). Police holding charged him for the offence on June 29. He appeared at Sha Tin Magistrates' Courts on June 30.

     The 40-year-old woman was subsequently certified dead at 9.53am today (July 27). A post-mortem examination will be conducted later to ascertain the cause of her death.

     The case is reclassified as murder. Active investigations by District Crime Squad of Sha Tin District are underway.
